Antimicrobial Resistant of Acinetobacter baumannii in Uthai Thani Hospital

Abstract


Acinetobacter baumannii is the first nosocomial infection and trend to be antimi-crobial drug resistance. The aim of this research is to study the trend of antimicrobial drug resistant of Acinetobacter baumannii in Uthai Thani Hospital during 2006 to 2010. This data will be useful for the bacterial infection control and antimicrobial drug using policies of the hospital. The retrospective study of bacterial specimen isolates and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method in Microbiology Laboratory at Uthai Thani Hospital which data collection and analysis using MLAB program. The results show that Acinetobacter baumannii is the most common antimicrobial drug resistance except in 2007 which is Escherichia coli. The antimicrobial susceptibility pattern in 2006 to 2010 was Acinetobacter baumannii resist to multiple antibiotics about 77.58 to 100% while they resistance to sulperazone 14.63, 20.59, 33.17, 76.80 and 87.12 respectively. Moreover, the result reveals that Acinetobacter baumannii also resist to Tigecycline (new drug) 12.92 and 16.93 in 2009 and 2010 respectively. The data show that the trend of Acinetobacter baumannii is pandrug resistant increasing. Therefore, it is necessary for more surveillance and control of antimicrobial resistance spread especially appropriate antimicrobial selection for therapy.
