Prevalence of 3 Metabolic Syndrome Components in Tambon Health Promoting Hospital at Thasongkorn District, Mahasarakham Province
People who have one or two abnormal components of metabolic syndrome (MS) in a 3-year period will lead to the MS compared to normal controls. This study aimed to observe the prevalence of abnormal components of MS in Tambon Health Promoting Hospital (THPH) population. The data were collected from the records of 1151 and 777 people who went to THPH of Thasongkorn district, Mahasarakham province in the year 2008 and 2011, respectively. The results showed that in 2008, the prevalence of increased glucose level, increased blood pressure, obesity with high body mass index and abnormality of at least one component were 17%, 41%, 18% and 66%, respectively, while in 2011, the figures were 17%, 36%, 18% and 62%, respectively. However, the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension in the year 2008 and 2011 decreased slightly from 4% to 3% and 21% to 17%, respectively. Taken together, these findings can be used for further health promoting and surveillance of MS in THPH in Thailand.
