For some, institutions, it is an option, where others, strictly follows a residential program. In any case, the fooding becomes an integral part of it. Though, several of the institution tries and often makes a diet chart with adequate nutrients. Implementing for such large masses often becomes quite difficult. One of the main causes for the same is the contractor who provides food, and tries to make profit by substituting several elements such as oil by dalda and other low grade vegetables and dairy components. Also, the timing of dinner plays an important role. Almost all the hostel messes serve the supper between 7:30 to 9:00 PM. And it is not a secret, that student, without their parent's supervision kind of stay up until late night. The night owl phase can last up to as late as 2:30 to 3:30 AM. A dinner at 8, does very little after midnight, and students look for some midnight snacks.
